Gemini Storybooks vs cuentoconlaIA: how are we different?

Gemini writes a story with a mascot. We make a book of your kid. Why that changes everything.

Last updated: May 5, 2026

On LinkedIn, after announcing the launch, someone asked a reasonable question: "Looks great, congrats! But what's the difference between this and Gemini Storybooks?" It's the most important question in the category right now. Here's the full answer.

The conceptual difference

Gemini Storybooks writes a story with a mascot: you pick a topic, Gemini picks the characters, and composes a narrative. The mascot belongs to the model.

cuentoconlaIA.com makes a book of your kid: you upload photos, you choose the storytelling style, and your kid (with their favourite plush toy) is the protagonist on every one of the 20 pages. The mascot belongs to you.

That reframing — who is the protagonist — is what separates a "nice book made with AI" from a book the kid picks up at bedtime, recognises themselves in, and asks for again the next night.

The honest take

Frontier models keep raising the floor. In 18 months Gemini (and peers) will close part of this gap. What they won't copy as easily:

  • Guided UX for non-technical parents. A general model gives you a blank page. We walk you through a process built specifically for turning photos into a children's book.
  • A product, not a demo. Transactional email, lightweight PDF, public share link, automatic refund when something breaks. Things a model in a chat session can't deliver on its own.
  • Privacy by architecture. Kid photos auto-delete after 30 days via an AWS S3 lifecycle rule, not via policy. Google trains on its data (with or without per-user opt-outs, depending on plan); we don't train models.
  • EU hosting + ES compliance. GDPR, LSSI-CE, LOPDGDD, AEPD 2024, EU AI Act Art. 50. Spanish + EU buyers appreciate a local operator on European infrastructure.

When Gemini is the right answer

If you want to improvise a quick story in a conversation (no real intent to print, no need to email it, no requirement that the kid be the protagonist), Gemini Storybooks is fine. It's a more general tool; we're a specific product.

When cuentoconlaIA is the right answer

  • Your kid is the protagonist. Upload photos, they recognise themselves on every page.
  • It's a gift. Birthdays, "first storybook of…", baby showers, long-distance gifts. A lightweight PDF travels by email and prints anywhere.
  • You want to end with a finished book, not a conversation. Close the wizard, grab a coffee, the book lands in your inbox. No prompt engineering.
  • Privacy matters. EU-hosted, no training, photos auto-deleted. Especially relevant for kids' data.
